Management’s role must therefore to provide this in the most efficient manner by combining factors of production and distribution and directing the efforts of the people concerned to the given purpose.
Enterprises need Plans, Directing and Control and all these will function only with effective organization.
These elements: Planning, Directing, Controlling, Staffing and Organizing are called Managerial Functions.
Planning means deciding in advance what is to be done, how is to be done, when is it to be done and who is to do it.
It implies the work of both problem solving and decision making.
Organization is the process of bringing together physical, financial and human resources in the best possible manner so as to achieve the goals.
It also means assigning specific jobs to individuals and departments. This helps in avoiding delays and duplication of work.
STEPS IN STAFFING PROCESS
Manpower planning: How much people are needed for a particular time period.
Job analysis: It means breaking up of the job and studying in detail to know the qualification required in the worker for the job.
Recruitment: Stimulating people to apply for the job
Selection: choosing and appointing the right person.
Controlling is the process through which management ensures that the actual performance conforms to the plan.
It discovers deviation from the results expected.
It reduces the chance of future mistakes and takes preventive measures.
Management has been identified as a systematic body of knowledge based own general principles, concepts, theories and techniques which are variable in terms of business practice.
These are embodied in the managerial functions of planning, organizing,staffing,directing and controlling which form the job of the manager.
In planning we establish objectives and plans
In organizing activities are grouped
In staffing we recruit select and train personnel required by the organization.
In directing the manager leads, motivate and appraise personnel.
Controlling is concerned with how well the organization is faring.
