ROBOTICS is the art, knowledge base, and the know-how of designing, applying and using robots in human endeavors.
Robotics is an interdisciplinary subject that benefits from mechanical engg., electrical & electronics engg., computer science , biology and many other disciplines.
A robot is officially defined by ISO as an automatically controlled ,reprogrammable , multipurpose manipulator programmable in three or more axes.
The word robot originated from the Czech word robota , meaning work.
1954 :the fist programmable robot is designed by George Devol, who coins the team universal automation.
1978: the puma (programmable universal machine for assembly) robot is developed by animation with a general motors design support.
In constructing robotic arm, we made use of three stepper motors & gears since our structure is a three dimensional structure. A typical prototype that we employed is as shown in figure below.
They increases productivity, safety, efficiency , quality & consistency of products.
They are capable of working in hazardous environment without need for life support.
They can work continuously without experiencing fatigue or boredom.
They have better accuracy then human.
